Sturgis and Pre-Sturgis

Like a lot of riders and bikers, I’m busy trying to get my shit together and get the heck out of Dodge. This year is more complex than normal, as I need to bring enough books and materials to run our first Really Big Booth in the Thunder Dome (more later). And among the many items on my To-Do list was one especially hard one: Attend the annual pre-Sturgis Party and Donnie Smith Bike show at the Joint Bar in Minneapolis.

It wouldn’t be Sturgis time without the annual pre-party at the Joint Bar in Minneapolis.

Party, Party, Party

Attendance at the Joint/Donnie Smith Show was excellent as always. In addition to curb-to-curb bikes and a corral full of customs, there were the stunt riders, along with the typical biker events like a slow-race and the bite-the-weenie contest. I went to the party early, with every intention of leaving early as well – in order to come home and get some more packing done. Well, you know what happened. First there were the pictures to take and then there were all the people I know, and then someone gave me a Bud…. And suddenly the sun was starting to dip in the west. No, I didn’t get any packing done, but I did have a great time. And the packing? Hell, that can always be put off and put off until in desperation I just throw everything in the truck and head west.

Yea, this is pretty good, but I wanna see ‘em do this on a Bagger.

The Booth!

Yes, we will have a booth in the Thunder Dome, which will be run by Jay Allen this year, the man responsible for the success of the Broken Spoke Saloon and Camp Ground. If there’s one thing Jay knows how to do, it’s throw a party. As long as Jay is in the house, there will be something going on. If it’s not a band, it’s a tattoo contest, and if there’s no one around with any tattoos, Jay will initiate a burn out contest, using his own bike as the first victim.

So stop by the Thunder Dome, we will have some well known characters like Chris Callen and the infamous Bean’re signing books and just hanging out. As in all things Sturgis, our schedule is a little loose. Look for action at the booth in the afternoons, with any special events to be noted on Facebook.

See you in South Dakota.

It wouldn’t be a biker party without the Bite the Weenie contest.
